Therapeutic Indications Nicorette Ice Mint 2 mg gum is indicated to relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms in people over 18 who are motivated to stop smoking. Posology and method of administration Mouth Adults and the elderly: Drastic suppression of tobacco use. The initial dose should be individualized based on the patient's nicotine dependence. Smokers with low dependence (nicotine dependence according to Test Fagerström1 <6 or who smoke 20 cigarettes / day) should start treatment with 2 mg gum and highly dependent smokers should use the 4 mg dose. The amount of 8-12 gum per day is usually appropriate. Do not exceed 24 gum per day. The duration of treatment depends on the needs of each smoker, and its abrupt withdrawal is not desirable, as this may favor a return to tobacco addiction. It is preferable to reduce the dose gradually. For example: Every 4 or 5 days, decrease the daily consumption in one or two chewing gums, until it is consumed only 1 or 2 gum a day. This can be achieved in 2 or 3 months. The treatment should not be abandoned until the dose stabilizes in 1 or 2 gum per day. Regular use of chewing gum is not recommended for more than 6 months. If the patient has not been able to leave treatment definitively after 6 months, he should consult with his doctor. The doctor can advise depending on the situation of the patient, the use of a chewing gum punctually in case of sudden urges to smoke. Progressive suppression of smoking: In the case of opting for progressive reduction, the patient will replace, as far as possible, the cigarettes by Nicorette 2 mg medicated gum, in order to prolong the periods in which no cigarette is smoked, thus reducing the consumption of tobacco. The number of gum per day varies and depends on the needs of the patient. Do not exceed 24 gum per day. At 6 weeks of treatment, the smoker must have halved the number of cigarettes he smokes; otherwise the patient should consult his doctor. An attempt should be made to stop smoking definitely in 4 months, if not, the patient should consult with his doctor. From the fourth month of treatment until the sixth month, the patient will reduce the amount of chewing gums he takes gradually. Guideline of substitution of the number of cigarettes per day for gum.
